Description
For auction sale is a wonderful arts and crafts piece of art pottery made by Hampshire Pottery of Keene, NH. The piece is known as a "Chamber Stick" or "Candlestick". The chamber stick is a nice size as it stands 5 1/2" to the top and the bottom has a diameter of 5 1/8" outside handle measurement..The chamber stick has a wonderful matte cucumber green glaze that is pretty frothy. The chamber stick displays wide circular bottom with the stick tapering in and up. The top flares out and rolls in and over leading to a recessed area on the top inside to receive a candle. The inside of the bottom candle cup has a small hole. It was made this way. I have also seen versions of this style of candlestick as an electric candle. This hole would be larger with a socket on top and there would be a U shaped cord way access along the bottom edge to allow for the chamber stick to sit even. It is further accented with an ear shaped applied handle to carry it.
The chamber stick is considered to be in excellent condition as there are no cracks, nicks, chips or dings. This is a small glaze pop on the top side of the foot and this is pictured. The candlestick is signed on the bottom with the incised "Hampshire Pottery" in script letters along with the M in a circle mark. The signature is hard to see but one can see it when held at an angle in the light. There is also the mold number "73" impressed into the bottom as well. We can date this piece by this mark. The "M" in a circle mark was used to honor Cadmon Robertson's wife "Emoretta". She was the sister of the founder, James Scollay Taft. Cadmon Robertson was the head chemist for the glazes and ran Hampshire Pottery from 1904-1914. This mark was used during that time period.
Hampshire Pottery started producing matte glazes in 1891. This was 7 years earlier than their main competitor Grueby Faience of Boston, Mass. Hampshire Pottery resembles the style of Grueby but were much more affordable as they were mold made pieces as opposed to hand thrown. This will make a wonderful addition to any matte green pottery collection of art pottery and would look great on that Stickley, mission, arts and crafts bookcase.

I want to apologize for slowing down my shipping time. Ebay forced me into managed payments in July of the year 2020.
I used to get my money in 24 hours. I now get it in 3-4 business days. I was told it would be better for me and my fees would go down. This has been the opposite as my fees have actually increased and now it takes longer for me to receive the payments
. Because of this slowdown I will not ship until the payment has made it into my bank account. No store lets you out of the building with the
merchandise
unless it is paid for.
They are also n
ow charging all sellers a commission of 11.7% on sales tax. Pay Pal used to charge 2.9% payment processing fee but Ebay has changed this to 11.7%. This is an increase of 8.8% on the sales tax portion. They are now making a profit on the sales tax and treating it as a sale which in my eyes is wrong!! They did the same on the shipping charges several years ago. They use to not charge anything and now they are charging 11.7% commission on shipping as well. This has raised the cost to ship items to you, the buyer and this is factored into my shipping charges.
If you feel what Ebay is doing is wrong or you don't agree them please contact Ebay and voice your opinion. Maybe if enough of you do this, they will change their policy.
