Description
- Master Owen, as Young Norval, 1838 - Framed size: 6 1/2 x 7 1/4 inches"19th century tinsel prints was a popular art form found in the London theatre world from about 1820 -1850. Before color printing or photography, publishes used metal line engravings to mass produce prints of well-known actors and sold them for one penny, or hand colored for two pence, hence 'penny plain, tuppence colored'. Publishes such as Webb, Hodgson, and Redington began to sell matching kits of die stamped metal with which people could decorate their purchases."
