Listing cost of boarding, tuition and courses. Where it’s located and how to get there. The College founded in 1856 and was the first Female College in Penna to grant degrees in Arts & Science. School was named for author Washington Irving, who served on the board of trustees until his death in 1859. During the Civil War  Northern soldiers passed through the small town of Mechanicsburg on the Cumberland Valley Railroad. “A Reading soldier remembered one sight that delighted the young men of his regiment. At Mechanicsburg a whole girls school was out to see us. Soldiers of a day, we already began, in the midst of these inspiring scenes, to feel like real veterans.” Folded open 9 3/4” x 7 3/4”.
